Rookie Annie Mahoney picked up the first individual MIAC win of her career by defeating Concordia's Anna Rasmussen 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.
St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s tennis kicked off its 2012 conference schedule with wins over Concordia and Macalester on Saturday at the Swanson Tennis Center. The Gusties defeated Concordia 8-1 in the morning before sweeping Macalester 9-0 later in the afternoon. Gustavus is now 3-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.
“The team took care of business and responded well to playing a pair of early-season conference matches,” said assistant coach Heidi Carlson. “It was good to see us come out with a lot of fire and energy early. Hopefully we will carry this momentum with us when he hit the road next weekend.”
Next weekend, part of the team will travel to Winona, Minn. to take on Saint Mary’s on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 10:00 a.m., while select members will travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to take part in the two-day Missouri Western Tournament on Feb. 25-26.
