The Gustie women's tennis team opened its home schedule with a 6-3 win over Augustana on Saturday.
The Gustavus women’s tennis team earned its first win of the season by defeating Augustana College (S.D.) 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties took two points in the doubles competition before earning four points in singles. Gustavus improves to 1-1 on the season, while the Vikings suffer their first loss and are now 2-1.
“It was a good start for us today,” said Head Coach Jon Carlson. “I’m proud of the way the team competed, especially to kick off our home schedule. With that said, its a long season and we still have a lot of work to do.”
Picking up wins in singles was Alex Erickson (6-4) at #2, Laurel Krebsbach (4-6) #3, Megan Born (4-2) #4, and Mallory Shellum (6-2) #6.
Megan Gaard and Krebsbach defeated Michelle Wadas and Kathrynn Jesperson 8-4 at #1 doubles, and Mary Roop and Annie Mahoney topped Jessica Spalding and Gabrielle Kachena 8-2 at #3 doubles.
The Gustavus women’s tennis team will be back at the Swanson Tennis Center Saturday, Feb. 18th when it hosts Concordia at 9:00 a.m. and Macalester at 4:00 p.m.
