The Gustavus gymnastics team recorded 172.550 points to finish in fourth place at the Best of Minnesota Invite held in the Sports Pavilion on the campus of the University of Minnesota on Saturday, Feb. 11. The Minnesota Gophers cruised to gold with a score of 195.425 points. Rounding out the meet was Winona State in second (182.00) and Hamline in third (177.700).
Gustavus tallied individual event scores of 45.700 on the vault, 38.175 on the uneven parallel bars, 43.025 on the balance beam, and 45.650 on the floor exercise. The Gusties’ mark of the floor is a season-high score.
Sophomore Jamie Ries (Monticello, Minn.) turned in season-high marks on the balance beam and floor, placing 10th in both events. She scored a 9.00 on the beam and a 9.375 on the floor. She also added a 13th place finish on the vault after scoring a 9.200.
Junior Bailey Zeinert (Oshkosh, Wis.) competed in the all-around, finishing seventh with a her best total of the year at 35.175. Her top individual event finish came on the bars where she took 10th with a season-high 8.925. Zeinert also registered scores of 9.075 on the vault, 8.200 on the beam, and 8.975 on the floor. Her routine on the floor also accounted for a season-high score.
The Gustavus gymnastics team will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 19 when it hosts the Gustavus Quadrangular at 2:00 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
