Meghan McMillan Named MIAC Athlete Of The Week

Senior forward Meghan McMillan was named MIAC Athlete-of-the-Week.

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) named Meghan McMillan its Women’s Soccer Athlete-of-the-Week on Tuesday. The senior forward from Minneapolis, Minn. knocked home the game-winning goal in a 1-0 upset victory over the University of St. Thomas last Saturday in St. Peter. The goal was fitting for the occasion, as the Gusties’ lone senior scored her first goal of the season on Senior Day.

McMillan’s game-winner 4:35 into the second period ended a four-game skid against the Tommies and marked the first Gustie victory over UST in St. Peter since 1997. The goal was also her first since a 9-0 victory over Central College on Sept. 10, 2010. After suffering a season-ending leg injury in the third week of the season last year, Meghan has started in 14 of 15 games this season with one goal, one assist and 26 shots (.038 shot percentage). Her career totals include 10 goals and six assists.

McMillan and the Gusties conclude their 2011 campaign this week with two MIAC road tests in St. Paul. St. Catherine will play host to Gustavus Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and next Saturday marks the season finale on the soccer pitch at Macalester against the Scots at 1:00 p.m.
