The Gustavus men’s soccer team put seven goals on the scoreboard for the fourth time this season in a 7-0 victory over North Central University on Tuesday afternoon in Coon Rapids, Minn. Gabe Steinborn and Zach Brown each scored two goals in the win. Gustavus concludes its 2011 non-conference schedule with the victory, improving to 14-1-1 on the season. North Central falls to 2-11-2 with the loss.
Gabe Steinborn put the Gusties on the scoreboard first at the 7:12 mark of the first half. Steinborn’s goal was the first of five first half tallies the Gusties would score.
A Grant Steine goal at 16:50 was one of three Gustie goals within a four minute time-span. Brown hit the back of the net at 19:05 and Steinborn scored his second goal at 20:58. Justin Eglseder brought the first half scoring to a close with an unassisted goal in the 41st minute to put Gustavus up 5-0 heading into the break.
The Gusties outshot the Rams 20-1 in the first half and 24-1 in the match.
Chris Berglund gave Gustavus a 6-0 lead in the 53rd minute, and Brown brought the match to a final at 7-0 with a goal at 65:30.
Goalkeeper Brett Ylonen picked up the win going nearly 55 minutes in the match, while North Central’s Matt Huberty suffered the loss in a nine-save effort.
The Gustavus men’s soccer team will be back in MIAC action on Saturday, Oct. 22 in a match against St. Thomas at 1:00 p.m. in St. Paul.
