The Gustavus men’s cross country team took 17th place with 455 points at the Jim Drews Invitational on Saturday in La Crosse, Wis. The Gusties posted an average time of 27:25.2. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse won its home event with 79 points, Nebraska Wesleyan took second with 112 points and Hamline placed third with 145 points.
Iowa Central took the top two individual podium spots with Stanley Kebenei and Jamal Boma crossing the finish line in 24:21.8 and 25:29.1, respectively. Hamline’s Devin Monson finished third in 25:34.3.
For the Gusties, it was Mark Bartley posting the lowest time at 26:34.8 for 38th place. Also cracking the 28-minute mark included Dillon Emo in 27:10.3 (76th), Adam Lund in 27:37.5 (108th), Anders Bowman in 27:45.6 (111th), Preston Tomlinson in 27:59.3 (122nd) and Joseph Renier, also in 27:59.3.
Gustavus will compete in the MIAC Championships on Oct. 29 in St. Paul, Minn. beginning at 3:15 p.m. Last year, the Gusties took eighth at the conference meet.
