Men’s Soccer Moves To No. 19 On NSCAA National Top-25 Poll Posted on October 4th, 2011 by

Gustavus' Zach Schmith is part of a Gustavus defense that has allowed just four goals per game.

The Gustavus men’s soccer team dropped two spots to No. 19 according to the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) top-25 poll this week.  The Gusties also held down the No. 12 spot according to D3soccer.com’s top-25 poll.  Head Coach Mike Middleton’s squad went 1-0-1 last week, defeating Saint Mary’s 5-0 on Sept. 27 and tying with Carleton 0-0 on Oct. 1.

Gustavus will take on Crown College in a non-conference contest today at 4:00 p.m. on the Gustie Soccer Field.  Gustavus enters the game at 9-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the MIAC, sitting in a tie for second place in the conference standings alongside Carleton (5-3-2, 3-0-1) with 10 points.  Crown enters today’s match at 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.

The Gusties are currently ranked eighth in NCAA Division III in goals against average at .35 and 16th in scoring average at 3.18 goals per game.

The men’s soccer team will conclude the week with a conference road test against Bethel in Arden Hills, Minn. on Saturday Oct. 8 at 1:00 p.m.
