The Gustavus women’s cross country team ran its way to a ninth place finish with 220 points at the Blugold Invitational on Friday in Eau Claire, Wis. The Gusties went up against its toughest competition of the season at the race, facing a field of 19 teams and 341 runners. Brooke Beskau (Hastings, Minn.) ran her best race of the season, leading the Gusties with a 15th place finish with a time of 22:58.6.
Also finishing in the top-40 for Gustavus was Kate Eggers (Montevideo, Minn.) and Rebecca Hare (Albany, Minn). Eggers ran a 23:26.0 to cross the finish line in 31st, while Hare ran a 23:33.1 to place 36th.
Carleton College (43) edged the University of Minnesota (54) by 11 points to win the race. The Knights won with an average time of 22:39, while Minnesota recorded a team average of 22:45. UW-Eau Claire rounded out the top-three in third with 65 points (22:51).
Gustavus’ top-five was capped off by Kim Rostvold (Grand Rapids, Minn.) in 67th (24.29.4) and Caitlin Fermoyle (Mendota Heights, Minn.) in 71st (24:35.0).
The Gustavus women’s cross country will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Dan Huston Meet held in Waverly, Iowa at 10:45 p.m.
