The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Men’s Golf Athlete-of-the-Week and Gustavus junior Coby Rowley earned Co-Athlete-of-the-Week honors for his performance last weekend at the Macalester Invitational. Rowley earns the honor alongside Michael Mortenson of St. Thomas.
The Prior Lake, Minn. native led the Gusties’ second team to a third-place finish by winning the first individual tournament title of his collegiate career with a two-day total of 76-72-148 (+4). He was one of two players in a field of 68 to shoot a 72 (E) over the course of the tournament. Rowley was also one of nine golfers to break 80 both days.
Coby started off the season with an impressive performance at the Augsburg Invite on Sept. 10-11. He finished in a tie for eighth place after recording a four-over-par 74-74-148. The three-year veteran took 32nd out of 115 at the Saint John’s Invitational the following weekend with a score of 80-78-158 (+14). Through six rounds, Rowley has registered a 75.4 average.
The next challenge for Rowley and the Gustavus men’s golf team is the MIAC Championships on Oct. 1-3. The annual Fall classic will be held at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn.
