The Gustavus men’s cross country team took sixth place out of 14 teams with a score of 173 at the St. Olaf Invitational on Saturday morning in Northfield, Minn. Minnesota State University-Mankato won the meet with 36 points and had four of its runners in the top-seven. Host St. Olaf placed second with 56 points, including two of its runners in the top-three. Central College took third with a score of 86.
Central’s Eli Horton won the 8K, 232-participant race with a time of 25:44, while St. Olaf’s Brian Saksa and Grant Wintheiser placed second and third with times of 25:52 and 25:58, respectively. Senior Mark Bartley recorded the quickest finish for the Gusties at 26:19 for 10th place.
Finishing the race under the 28-minute mark for Gustavus included first-year Dillon Emo at 26:49 for 23rd place, junior Adam Lund at 27:21 for 36th and senior Alex Thornton five seconds later (27:26), finishing 41st.
The Gustie men have the following weekend off and will journey to Eau Claire, Wis. on Sept. 30 for the Blugold Invitational. The men’s 8K race will begin at 5:00 p.m.
