Men’s Soccer Moves Up In The Polls Posted on September 13th, 2011 by

Junior defender Evan Odean (Duluth, Minn.)

After defeating then #14 UC-Santa Cruz 1-0 on Saturday and Cal Lutheran 2-1 in overtime on Sunday, the Gustavus men’s soccer team has moved up in the polls after a 5-0 start to the 2011 season.  The Gusties are currently ranked eighth in NCAA Division-III according to the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.

The Gustavus men’s soccer program is off to its best start since the 2003 Golden Gusties started the year 5-0, going on to a 16-1-5 overall record and a 6-1-3 MIAC mark to finish second in the conference.

The current Gusties are averaging 3.00 goals per game this season, scoring a total of 15 goals and recording 91 shots.  The defense has proven itself to be a force to be reckoned with in the first two weeks, as Gustavus has allowed just one goal on 39 shots.

The Gustavus men’s soccer team will open MIAC play on Wednesday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. when it welcomes fellow undefeated opponent St. Olaf (4-0) to campus.  The two teams played to a 1-1 tie in their last meeting on Oct. 2, 2010 in Northfield.
