The Gustavus women’s golf team shot a 338-324-662 (+86) to finish in eighth place at O’Brien National Invitational held Sept. 11-12 at the Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind. Methodist University won the event after shooting identical 315’s on back-to-back days, finishing with a 630 (+54). DePauw University placed second at 631 (+55), while Washington University placed third with a 639 (+63).
Head Coach Scott Moe was pleased with his team’s performance on day two, but said the team needed to be more consistent from top to bottom.
Freshman Sam Falk (Glenwood, Minn.) turned in Gustavus’ top performance of the tournament. Falk shot a 86-74-160 (+16) to finish in a three-way tie for 11th. Her 74 on day two was the third-best round turned in over the weekend.
Kayleigh Dittes (Jr. Eden Prairie, Minn.) also cracked the top-20, finishing 18th after shooing an 84-79-163 (+19). Senior Rikka Holiday (Bozeman, Mont.), competing as an individual, placed 22nd with a 165 (+21), and senior Ann Jackson (Fargo, N.D.) rounded out Gustavus’ top competitors in 35th at +25 (169).
Winning the tournament was Washington’s Olivia Lugar who fired a 78-71-149 (+5). In second place was Catherine Wagner (152, +8) and in third was Methodist’s Kelsie Carralero (153, +9).
The Gustavus women’s golf team will be back on the links Sept. 17-18 when it competes in the Division III Midwest Classic held at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn.

Sam’s 74 was her careeer best. She had had several 75s.
