Men’s Golf Takes Third At Augsburg Invite

Tyler McMorrow (SO, St. Cloud, Minn.) took fourth place at the Augsburg Invite, shooting one-over-par.

The Gustavus men’s golf team placed third at the Augsburg College Fall Invitational on Sunday in Ham Lake, Minn. with a score of 292-303-595 (+19). Saint John’s University won the 22-team event at six-over-par at 582, while the University of Manitoba took second, one shot ahead of the Gusties at 594 (+18). Gustavus’ second team placed 11th, posting a score of 621.

Sophomore Tyler McMorrow led Gustavus, shooting a 74-71-145 (+1), four strokes behind the winner, John Wytinck of Manitoba who turned in a 73-68-141 (-3). Tim McCormick from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire placed second at one-under-par 70-73-143, while Alex Klehr of Saint John’s took third with an even-par 71-73-144 (E).

Second-team junior Coby Rowley posted Gustavus’ second best score at 148 (+4). The Prior Lake, Minn. native was consistent throughout the weekend shooting identical rounds of 74 on Saturday and Sunday, tying for eighth place. Sophomores Simon Erlandsson and Andrew Oakes tied for a 12th place finish at five-over-par with scores of 74-75-149 and 72-77-149, respectively.

The third-place finish for Gustavus marks the fifth time in the past six years the Gusties have finished in the top-three at the Augsburg Invite. The Gusties won the fall event last year and in 2007.

Next weekend, the Gustie men travel to Sauk Center, Minn. and Sartell, Minn. for the Saint John’s Invitational on Sept. 18-19. The tournament will be held at Greystone Golf Course (Sauk Center) and Blackberry Ridge (Sartell).
