For the eighth straight season, the Gustavus women’s golf team opened the season at the Georgianni Memorial Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in Eau Claire, Wis. The Gusties are the current leader after shooting a 318 (+30) in day one on Saturday, Sept. 3. UW-Eau Claire sits in second place after shooting a 320 (+32) and Carleton College rounds out the top three in third with a 326 (+38).
Gustavus Black, which is Gustavus’ second team in the tournament, is in eighth place after firing a 335 (+47). First year golfer Sam Falk (Glenwood, Minn.), who is playing on Gustavus Black, paced all Gusties golfers and is in fourth place after shooting a 75 (+3) in her first collegiate round.
Finishing off the top three is Mary Welch of UW-Stevens Point in first place (73, +1), and Kathryn Hauff of Saint Benedict (74, +2) and Taylor Wells of Carleton (74, +2) in a tie for second.
Kayleigh Dittes (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Ann Jackson (Fargo, N.D.) also finished in the top 10. Both Dittes and Jackson are in a four-way tie for fifth place after shooting a 78 (+6). Other notables include Taylor Drenttel (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), Rikka Holiday (Bozeman, Mont.), and Liz Strom (Fargo, N.D.) all in 14th after shooting an 81 (+9).
“We had a pretty solid day, but we need to be more consistent off the tee tomorrow,” said Head Coach Scott Moe following day one. “There is a lot of strong competition this weekend and we will need to play well to stay on top.”
The Gustavus women’s golf team will wrap up play at the Georgianni Memorial Invite on Sunday, Sept. 4. The tournament is being held at the Wild Ridge and Mill Run Golf Courses in Eau Claire, Wis.
