The Gustavus volleyball team made its way back to Lund Center to report for pre-season workouts on Friday, August 19. The Gusties will look for a turnaround season under second-year head coach Rachell Dosch, as 25 players, 12 of which are returning letterwinners, reported for fall camp.
“We’ve got a lot of positive energy on the team right now,” said Dosch. “The first year players are really pushing the upper classes and everyone is ready to go.”
The Gusties will open the 2011 season at the Pike’s Peak Challenge hosted by Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Sept. 2-3. Coach Dosch’s squad will play four matches while in Colorado Springs starting with Howard Payne University and Westminster College on Friday, and finishing with Colorado College and SUNY New Paltz on Saturday.
The list of returning letterwinners includes seniors Malea Noennig (Norwood Young America, Minn.), Angela Ahrendt (St. Paul, Minn.), Katie Ness (Excelsior, Minn.), and Olivia Warren (Goodhue, Minn.), juniors Lisa Beacher (Roseville, Minn.), Kelsey Florian (Roseville, Minn.), Erin Sherman (Golden Valley, Minn.), and Emily Phillips (Cleveland, Minn.), and sophomores Kaytlin Remold (Byron, Minn.), Dana Boerboom (Cottonwood, Minn.), McKinze Bunne (Ostrander, Minn.) and Jenna Lagatt (Sartell, Minn.).
“Everyone is healthy so far, we hope to keep it that way. I am really excited about the veteran leadership on this team and it will be really fun to watch the newcomers contribute,” commented Dosch.
