Gustavus Adolphus College Director of Communication Services and Sports Information Director Tim Kennedy has accepted the position of Assistant Vice President and Director of Multimedia Innovation in the division of Marketing and Communication. Taking up the post June 1, 2011, Kennedy will serve as the College’s key communication strategist with the offices of Admission and Advancement, promoting the College’s academic excellence and distinctive attributes to key constituents. He will focus particular attention on continuing to advance the College’s web, social media, and mobile communication efforts. He will also lead the search for Gustavus’s next Sports Information Director and that individual will report to him.
For more than two decades, Tim has led communication for 25 sports programs at Gustavus. He has aggressively pursued a comprehensive web communications strategy that includes extensive use of multimedia, video and audio streaming, and social media, giving Gustavus one of the most exciting athletic web sites in Division III. He has also directed marketing and media relations for six national championship events hosted by Gustavus, including most recently the 2010 NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Championship. He has placed numerous stories in national publications such as Sports Illustrated, the NCAA Magazine, the New York Times, and the Los Angeles Times, as well as regular feature stories in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the St. Paul Pioneer Press, WCCO Radio, and all four Twin Cities television stations. During the past 20 years, Tim has nominated 65 student-athletes that have gone on to receive Academic All-America honors and he coordinated the nomination of 17 student-athletes who received prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships. In 2010, he was awarded the Bob Kenworthy Community Service Award from the College Sports Information Directors of America and in 2000 he was honored with Gustavus’s Eric Norelius Award.
