Softball’s Klass And Wendorff Earn All- Midwest Region Honors Posted on May 12th, 2011 by

Gustavus Adolphus softball players Lisa Klass (Richfield, Minn.) and Emily Wendorff (Lakeville, Minn.) have been named to the 2011 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Midwest Region Team.  Junior Klass earns a spot on the second-team as a utility player, while senior Wendorff earns an at-large spot on the third team.  Klass and Wendorff are two of 14 players from the MIAC to receive All-Region distinction this year.

Shortstop Lisa Klass, who receives All-Region honors for the second straight year, led the Gusties at the plate this season, hitting .388 (45-116) with a team-high 45 hits.  Klass also led the team in runs (32), doubles (11), and triples (2), while recording 13 RBI.  The junior leadoff hitter was the third most walked player in the conference this season with 21, finishing with a on-base percentage of .482.  In the field, Klass finish the season with a fielding percentage of .939 in 41 games.

First baseman Emily Wendorff started in 41 games and finished the season with a batting average of .361 (4th/team).   She was second on the team in hits (43) and recorded 21 RBI, reaching the 20-RBI mark for the fourth time in her collegiate career.  The Lakeville, Minn. native led the Gusties with a fielding percentage of .990, making just three errors in 311 chances.  Wendorff, who was recently named Academic All-District, makes the All-Region Team for the second straight season.
