The Gustavus men’s golf team posted a 54-hole total of 283-283-298–864 to finish first out of 16 teams at the Saint John’s Invitational. The Gusties fired rounds of 283-283–566 on Friday in Monticello and held a 10-shot lead over host Saint John’s. On Saturday, #17 Gustavus registered a total of 298 and held off #3 Saint John’s, which posted a final round total of 294. Alex Kolquist led the Gusties individually as he finished in a tie for first with a one-over par total of 73-70-72-215.
The Saint John’s Invitational wraps up the spring regular season for Gustavus and the Gusties will now wait to hear if they will receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, which will take place at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C. on May 10-13.
All five players participating on the Gusties #1 unit finished in the top 15 including Kolquist, who tied for first, Andrew Oakes, who placed sixth (69-71-77–217), Simon Erlandsson, who placed seventh (69-71-77–217), and Trevor Gervais (76-69-76–221) and Tyler McMorrow (70-75-76–221) who tied for 12th.
The Gustavus Black team finished ninth with a team total of 302-309-308–919. Coby Rowley led the Black squad as he finished 22nd with a total of 72-79-73–224). Other finishes for the Black team included Alex Flasch (45th, 78-77-76–231), Matt Jensen (52nd, 73-78-82–233), Alex Pederson (52nd, 79-75-79–233), and Jon Husu (62nd, 80-80-80–240).
