Women’s Tennis Opens FAB 10 Tournament With 5-2 Win Over Mary Washington Posted on March 27th, 2011 by

Sam Frank came away with a tough three set win over Mary Washington's Courtney Goimarac on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta.

The Gustavus women’s tennis team opened up the FAB 10 Women’s Tennis Tournament with a 5-2 victory over the University of Mary Washington on Sunday, March 27 in Atlanta.  The FAB 10 is being hosted March 25-31 by Emory University at the Woodruff P.E. Center and Student Athletic & Academic Center.  The Gustavus women’s tennis improves to 9-4 on the season with the win, while Mary Washington drops to 3-3 with the loss.

The Gusties picked up three points in doubles with a pair of 8-6 victories from the Sam Frank/Megan Gaard combo and the Megan Born/Mary Roop partnership. Marianne Barau and Alex Erickson completed the sweep with an 8-2 win, giving Gustavus a 3-0 lead heading to singles play.

The Gusties won the match by decision after Sam Frank defeated Courtney Goimarac in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 at #1 singles, and Alex Erickson topped Michelle Meadows 6-3, 6-1 at #4. Megan Gaard fell 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 to Megan Lawlor at #2 singles, while Mary Roop lost to Lindsay Raulston 6-2, 7-5 at #5.

The Gustavus women’s tennis team will be back on the court tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. for a match against Middlebury College at the Student Athletic & Academic Center.
