The Gustavus gymnastics team saw its season come to a close on Friday evening as first year Jamie Ries and sophomore Dani Thibodeau competed at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Championships in Eau Claire, Wis. Ries scored 8.750 on the uneven bars (33rd), while Thibodeau registered a score of 8.750 on the balance beam (49th) and a score of 9.300 on the floor exercise (9.30).
The team title was won by UW-La Crosse with a score of 191.175 and the Individual All-Around Title was Christa Booman of UW-La Crosse with a total of 38.650.
The top 12 gymnasts (and ties) in each individual event advanced to the championship finals on Saturday afternoon.
The National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) announced the All-American Scholar Team at the meet and two Gustavus gymnasts were recognized for the academic accomplishments. They were seniors Kelly Mathewson and Lindsay Smithson. Mathewson, a native of Maple Grove, Minn., maintains a 3.502 cumulative grade point average with majors in management and art studio. Smithson, a native of Champlin, Minn., maintains a 3.471 cumulative grade point average with a major in psychology.
