Women’s Indoor Track & Field Competes In Macalester Pre-MIAC Meet Posted on February 25th, 2011 by

Sam Broderius recorded wins in the weight throw and shot put at the MAC Pre-MIAC Meet

The Gustavus Adolphus women’s indoor track and field team competed in the Macalester Pre-MIAC Meet on Friday night in St. Paul.  It was the squad’s last competition before heading to St. Paul to take part in the 2011 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 3-5.  The Gusties turned in 16 individual top-three finishes and seven wins, as there were no team scores kept at the meet.

Sam Broderius was the top Gustavus performer of the meet, recording wins in both the weight throw and shot put.  She won the weight throw with a toss of 47’ 5.25”, and the shot with a throw of 42’ 2.75”.

Ally Voss and Holly Hoffman placed second and third, respectively in the pole vault.  Voss cleared 10’ 4.00”, and Hoffman cleared 9’ 4.25”.

Megan Endresen and Emily Ford rounded out the top finishers in the field events.  Endresen took second behind Broderius in the weight throw (47’ 5.00”), while Ford finished third in the shot put (39’ 2.25”).

The Gusties had a good day in the jumps, tallying wins in the high jump, long jump, and triple jump.  Madeline Schmitz won the high jump after clearing 5’ 2.25”.  Janey Helland won the long jump with a leap of 18’ 5.75”, while also finishing runner-up in the high jump with a mark of 5’ 2.25”.  Lauren Rothschiller added the other win by taking the triple jump with a bound of 35’ 4.00”.  She also placed third in the long jump (16’ 5.75”).

Beth Hauer and Abby Karl provided Gustavus’ two wins in the running events.  Hauer ran a 10:27.29 to win the 3000-meter run, while Karl went 1:37.60 to finish first in the 600-meter run.

Other top performers in the track events were Laura Secor, Megan Lundgren, and Andi Eglinton.  Secor finished runner-up in the mile with a time of 5:32.76.  Lundgren and Eglinton both placed third in their respective events, Lundgren in the 1000-meter run (3:03.62) and Eglinton in the 3000-meter run (11:33.42).

The 2011 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships will be hosted by St. Thomas in the brand new AARC Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of St. Thomas.
