The Gustavus women’s track and field team relied on strong efforts from its distance runners and field-event competitors in the Saint John’s Triangular, held February 19 in Collegeville, Minn.
Elizabeth Hauer (17:50.14) and Brooke Beskau (18:40.82) got the day started for Gustavus, finishing first and second respectively in the 5000-meter run. The distance runners would compete at a high level throughout the meet, as Andi Eglinton won the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:40.34, while Beskau took second place in the mile in 5:31.17 and was joined by Laura Secor, who finished the event in fourth place with a mark of 5:38.35.
In the field events, Gustavus picked up event wins from Janey Helland in the long jump (5.60 meters) and Samantha Broderius in the shot put (12.43 meters). The Gusties’ Madeline Schmitz (1.54 meters) and Nevada Wendlandt (1.44 meters) took second and third in the high jump, while Allyson Voss (3.12 meters), Holly Hoffman (2.97 meters), and Wendlant (2.97 meters) took second, third, and fourth respectively in the pole vault.
Other top Gustavus finishes on the day included Megan Lundgren’s second-place (1:41.11) finish in the 600-meter run, Abby Karl’s third-place (1:00.97) effort in the 400-meter dash, and Megan Endresen’s second-place finish in the weight throw (14.47 meters).
The Gusties’ next competition will take place on Friday, February 25, as they travel to St. Paul, Minn. for the Pre-MIAC meet hosted by Macalester.
