Gustavus Adolphus junior women’s basketball player Molly Geske was named to the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District Women’s Basketball Team on Thursday. Athletes receiving the distinction are chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and are recognized as the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance on the floor and in the classroom. Geske was named First Team Academic All-District in District Five of the College Division.
A captain for the Head Coach Mickey Haller’s squad, Geske currently ranks second in Division III in free throw percentage at 92.1-percent (70-76). She leads the MIAC in free throw percentage at 94.7-percent (54-57), while ranking fifth in scoring with an average 14.5 points per game. Geske, a First Team All-Conference performer in 2009-10 and a member of the 2008-09 MIAC All-Rookie Team, has started and played in every game of her collegiate career (72 straight). The Mendota Heights, Minn. native earned a spot on the Academic All-District Third Team last season, while leading the Gusties in scoring (14.7 ppg) on their way to a MIAC title with a record of 20-6.
Geske, a two-time member of the Academic All-Conference Team, is a Public Accounting major with a 3.95 GPA. She also volunteers for the Building Bridges program at Gustavus. Molly is just one of two players from the MIAC to be named Academic All-District, alongside Concordia’s Erica Nord who also earned a spot on the First Team.
