Laura Drake named MIAC Swimmer of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus first-year swimmer Laura Drake has been named MIAC Women’s Swimming Athlete of the Week for her efforts this past weekend at the Falcon Invite held at the Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.  Drake, competing in the White Division against such schools as St. Cloud State University, the University of South Dakota, Northern State University, and Minnesota State University-Mankato, recorded two individual top-six finishes, while contributing to the fourth-place finishes of the 200 and 400 medley relay.

Drake, a native of Mendota Heights, Minn., placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.48, and sixth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.81.  She also finished ninth in the 400 IM (4:48.06) and 10th in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.72).

In the relay events, Drake swam the breaststroke portions of both the 200 and 400 medley relays.  In the 200 medley relay, Drake turned in a spit of 26.97, and in the 400 she went 1:09.44.  The 200 medley relay team finished with a time of 1:51.59, while the 400 medley relay turned in a time of 4:07.42.

Drake currently holds the top time in the MIAC in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, and 200 and 400 IM following the meet.  No team scores were kept at the Falcon Invite.

The Gustavus swimming and diving team will take some time off for the holidays before traveling to Puerto Rico for it training trip on December 26.  The Gusties will come back on January 2, and will face St. Thomas and Hamline in a triangular on January 8, at 1:00 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
