Gustavus Adolphus men’s golfer Alex Kolquist has earned MIAC Golf Co-Athlete of the Week honors for his performance at the Twin Cities Classic on Oct 9-11. Kolquist battled back after a rough start to the tournament, shooting a 78 on day one. He went on to record a 67 on day two and 71 on day three for a three-day total of 216 (E). He tied for second place along side Anthony Burdi from Carthage College. The Gusties finished in second place with a team score of 893 (+29). Kolquist shares the award with Tony Krogen of Saint John’s.
Kolquist, a sophomore from Hermantown, Minn., registered his top finish of the season at the Twin Cities Classic. His other top performances include a third place finish (150) at the Augsburg Invite and a seventh place finish (150) at the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invite. So far on the season, Kolquist has totaled 897 strokes for an average round of 74.8 (+3). He is currently ranked fourth in the MIAC in average strokes per round.
The Twin Cities Classic was the final event of the 2010 fall season. Gustavus will return to action in the spring with the rest of the MIAC teams.
