Rally Comes Up Short As Volleyball Loses To Hamline 3-2

The Gustavus volleyball team suffered another heartbreaking conference loss falling to Hamline by the score of 3-2 (25-23, 25-23, 16-25, 16-25, 15-11) in St. Paul on Wednesday night.

The Gustavus volleyball team suffered another heartbreaking conference loss falling to Hamline by the score of 3-2 (25-23, 25-23, 16-25, 16-25, 15-11) in St. Paul on Wednesday night.  The Gusties led 11-7 in the fifth set, but the Pipers rallied to take the decisive fifth set 15-11.

The Gusties got off to a slow start in the match losing the first two sets by the identical score of 25-23.  Coach Rachelle Dosch’s squad bounced back to post convincing wins in the third and fourth sets by the identical score of 25-16.  In the fifth set, the Gusties got off to a strong start and led 7-3 forcing the Pipers to call a timeout.  Gustavus continued its solid play and appeared to be on its way to victory with an 11-7 lead, but Hamline reeled off eight straights points to stun the Gusties and close out the match.

Gustavus was led by Angela Ahrendt who registered a season and career high 23 kills.  Ahrendt also posted an impressive .373 attack percentage with 23 kills in 51 attempts and only four errors.

The Gusties will stay on the road to face St. Kate’s on Friday night at 7 pm.
