The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team fired a 306 in day two for a weekend total of 608 (+32) to finish in second place at the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invite held Sept. 26-27 at the Wild Ridge Golf Course in Eau Claire, Wis. and New Richmond Golf Club in New Richmond, Wis. Saint John’s won the tournament after shooting a 302-289-591 (+15), while UW-Stout rounded out the top-three in third with a 300-310-610 (+34).
Individually, the top Gustavus golfer was Alex Pederson. Pederson finished in second place with a 72-73-145 (+1). He was in the lead after following day one of competition, yet Saint John’s Dennis Granath gained three strokes on Pederson in day two to win the tournament with a 73-70-143 (-1). Loren Churness of UW-Eau Claire finished third (73-74-147).
The Gusties had five players break into the top-20. Alex Kolquist added a top-ten finish in seventh place after shooting a 73-77-150 (+6). Matt Jensen placed 12th (74-78-152), Simon Erlandsson took 14th (73-80-153), and Tyler McMorrow finished 18th (81-73-154).
“The Johnnies played well, credit to them. We struggled a bit and we need to sharpen up next week,” said Head Coach Scott Moe.
The Gustavus men’s golf team will compete at the MIAC Championship held next weekend, Oct. 2-4, at Bunker Hills Golf Course in the Coon Rapids, Minn.
