Volleyball Suffers Heartbreaking Five-Set Loss To Northwestern Posted on September 25th, 2010 by

The Gustavus volleyball team jumped to a 2-1 set lead against Northwestern College on Saturday evening, but the Eagles rallied to claim the final two sets and the match including the decisive fifth set by a score of 15-10.  The Gusties fall to 4-8 overall as the final set scores were 25-19, 14-25, 28-26, 26-28, 10-15.

Gustavus got off to a strong start in the match winning the first set by the score of 25-19, but the Eagles bounced right back and evened the match at one set apiece by winning the second set 25-14.  The third and fourth sets were very competitive and very entertaining.  The Gusties battled back to win the third set 28-26, while the Eagles battled back to win the fourth set 28-26.

In the decisive fifth set, the score was tied at 6-6 when Northwestern went on a 7-0 run to take a 13-7 lead and then closed out the match by winning 15-10.
