Late Goal Allows Concordia To Defeat Men’s Soccer 2-1 Posted on September 18th, 2010 by

The Gustavus men’s soccer performed well according to Head Coach Mike Middleton, but the team continues to struggle to score goals and the result was a disappointing 2-1 loss to Concordia in Moorhead on Saturday. Concordia’s Riley McGlynn scored a header with just over three minutes remaining in regulation play to allow the Cobbers to escape with the 2-1 victory.  Chris Adams scored the lone goal for Gustavus in the 54th minute.

“We played very well again, we just need to do a better job of finishing our opportunities around the net” said Coach Middleton.  “The players are disappointed, this is a tough loss.”

Concordia took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute on Chris McGlynn’s first of two goals on the day.  The Cobbers led 1-0 at the break.  Chris Adam’s tied the score at 1-1 early in the second half when he took a cross from Justin Egleseder and one-timed it past Concordia goaltender Peter Runquist at the 53:16 mark.

The score remained tied until late in the match when Philip Bruckbauer sent a cross into the box that McGlynn headed past Gustavus goalkeeper Steve Lundberg for the game-winner at the 86:10 mark.

The Gusties, who fall to 2-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the MIAC, will face Bethany Lutheran College in a non-conference contest on Tuesday at 7 pm in Mankato.
