Volleyball Falls To Bethany Lutheran in Five Sets Posted on September 17th, 2010 by

Malea Noennig celebrates a point for the Gusties against Bethany Lutheran.

The Gustavus volleyball team got off to a fast start and looked impressive in building a 2-1 lead over Bethany Lutheran on Friday night, but the Vikings battled back to win the final two sets and claim a 3-2 win over the Gusties (10-25, 25-23, 21-25, 26-24, 15-11) at Gus Young Court in St. Peter.  Gustavus falls to 4-5 overall, while Bethany improves to 4-6 overall.

Gustavus came out fast and looked impressive in claiming the first set 25-10, but like they have done several times this season, the Gusties came out slow in the second set and lost 25-23.  In the third set, the Gusties trailed 18-16 but out-scored the Vikings 9-3 to close out the set and claim a 25-18 victory. The fourth set was a see-saw battle that saw Bethany squeak out a 26-24 victory and in the fifth set, the Vikings used a 8-4 run after the score was tied 7-7 to take the final set and claim the match 3-2.

Angela Ahrendt led the Gusties on the attack with 20 kills on 38 attempts for a .368 attack percentage.
