The Gustavus volleyball team just never found a rhythm in its three matches this past weekend and the result was a 0-3 record in front of the home fans at the Gustavus Classic. On Friday, the Gusties dropped a 3-1 decision to Saint Scholastica and then on Saturday, the squad lost to Martin Luther 3-2 and UW-River Falls 3-1. Coach Rachelle Dosch’s squad is now 3-4 overall this season.
On Saturday, the Gusties jumped out to a 2-1 lead in sets but Martin Luther charged back to win the fourth and fifth sets to claim the match by a score of 3-2. Set scores for Gustavus were 23-25, 25-14, 25-17, 20-25, 12-15. Emily Phillips led the attack with 14 kills and an attack percentage of .400. Jenny Ewert (15), Kelsey Florian (12), and Dana Boerboom (10) registered double-digit digs.
In the second match on Saturday, Gustavus won the first set 26-24, but then dropped the next three sets 21-25, 20-25, 18-25 and lost the match 3-1. Dana Boerboom registered a career high 18 kills to lead the Gusties, while Ewert led the defensive effort with 24 digs.
