Men’s Soccer Falls To St. Scholastica 2-0 Posted on September 5th, 2010 by

The Gustavus men’s soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to St. Scholastica at the Advantage Emblem Cup Tournament hosted by St. Scholastica in Duluth.  The Gusties are now 1-1 on the season.  Coach Mike Middleton’s squad will host Central College on Friday, Sept. 10 at 4:30 pm.

The Saints scored a goal in each half on its way to the 2-0 win over the Gusties.  Gustavus actually out-shot St. Scholastica 6-4 in the contest.  Steve Lundberg suffered the loss in the nets as he played all 90 minutes allowing both goals and making one save.

New head coach Mike Middleton was generally pleased with the team’s performance over the weekend.  He commented, “We are developing each game and each practice.  This group is getting used to playing a couple of different systems and that leads to inconsistent play at times.”  He added, “The effort is there and they are willing to work hard at what we are asking them to do.  This is a competitive bunch and teams will find it difficult to play against us.”

Doug Frey, Evan Odean, and Ben Ikeda were named to the 11-player All-Tournament Team.
