Volleyball Begins Preparations For 2010 Season Posted on August 24th, 2010 by

The Gustavus volleyball team arrived to campus on Saturday, August 21 to kick off preseason workouts for the 2010 season. The Gusties are under new leadership as Rachelle Dosch begins her first season as head coach after replacing Kari Eckheart. Dosch welcomed 15 players to preseason training. The Gusties first match is in Elmhurst, Illinois on Friday, September 3 as they will participate in the Elmhurst Invitational. Dosch’s squad will play their first game against Augustana College at 4:00 p.m.

“I’m ecstatic about the group here,” Dosch exclaimed. “The energy level in the gym is great and the players are responsive to new leadership.”

The Gusties return an experienced group of players with five returning starters and 12 returning letterwinners including All-Conference senior outside hitter Nicki Ainsworth. The remaining returners include senior defensive specialist Jenny Ewert, senior outside hitter Janey Helland, junior middle hitter Angela Ahrendt, junior defensive specialist Katie Ness, junior setter Malea Noennig, junior outside hitter Olivia Warren, sophomore outside hitter Lisa Beacher, sophomore setter/hitter Kelsey Florian, sophomore middle hitter Emily Phillips and sophomore defensive specialist Erin Sherman.

Gustavus posted a record of 11-17 overall and finished in a tie for ninth place with Carleton College in the MIAC last season with a conference record of 3-8.
