Former Gustavus golfer Jordan Hawkinson has been having significant success at the amateur level lately as he earned medalist honors at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Qualifying Tournament and then teamed with Clayton Johnson to win the Minnesota Public Golf Association’s State Four-Ball Championship. Hawkinson, a 2008 Gustavus graduate and three-time All-Conference performer on the golf team, will now participate in the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, which will take place at Bryan Park Golf and Convention Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, July 12-17.
At the Four-Ball Championship, Hawkinson and Johnson combined to shoot a 6-under-par 65 at Monticello Golf Club to claim the title. Their winning 36-hole score was 64-65–129. Hawkinson contributed 10 birdies to the victory.
The day after winning the MGA Four-Ball Championship, Hawkinson continued his hot play making eight more birdies in two rounds to claim medalist honors at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Qualifying Tournament at Loggers Trail Golf Course in Stillwater.
Hawkinson shot 71 in the morning and managed to post a 75 in the afternoon. His 36-hole aggregate turned out to be three better than the runner-up total of 149 by former St. Cloud State golfer Jake Zilkoski, who came back from a first-round 76 with a 73 in the afternoon.
Hawkinson, a math teacher in the Shakopee School District , will be making his first appearance in a USGA event, as will Zilkoski.
Wow. Keep up the good work Jordan.
