Women’s Outdoor Track And Field In First Place After Day One Of MIAC Championships Posted on May 14th, 2010 by

The Gustavus women’s outdoor track and field team is currently in the lead after day one of competition at the 2010 MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held Friday and Saturday, May 14-15 in Winona, Minn.  The Gusties scored a total of 63.5 points on the day, as St. Thomas scored 53 points and currently sits in second place.  St. Benedict rounds out the top three in third with 33 points.

Top three finishers on the day included Janey Helland, Allyson Voss, Sam Broderius, and the 4×800-meter team of Danielle Burgmeier, Abby Karl, Laura Secor, and Megan Lundgren.  Helland placed second in the long jump with a leap of 17′ 10.25.  Broderius took third in the discus with a throw of 134′ 2″, and Voss finished third in the pole vault, clearing 10′ 9″.  The 4×800 relay team placed runner up with a time of 9:22.34, setting a new Gustavus school record.

The Gusties registered 10 top-10 finishes on the day.  Also placing in the top five was Sara Baker and Diana Scott.  Baker took fourth in the long jump (17′ 0.75″), and Scott finished fourth in the hammer throw (149′ 3″).

Other top Gustavus finishers included Beth Hauer, Allyson Hanneman, Anna Bauer, and Holly Hoffman.  Hauer placed seventh in the 10000-meter run, Hanneman finished sixth in the discus, Bauer took seventh in the discus, and Hoffman placed tenth in the pole vault.

The final day of competition will begin tomorrow at 11:30am with the men’s discus, triple jump, and pole vault, and women’s javelin and high jump.
