Janey Helland Named MIAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Field Athlete of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus junior Janey Helland (Mapleton, Minn./Maple River) has been named the MIAC Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Field Athlete of the Week.  Helland started the weekend by winning the MIAC Heptathlon with a total of 4508 points, provisionally qualifying her for the NCAA Championships.  Helland capped off the weekend by winning the long jump (5.36 meters) at the Meet of the UnSaintly on Saturday in St. Paul.

Helland currently ranks sixth in the nation in the heptathlon.  Earlier this season at the Gustavus Drake Alternative, Helland registered an NCAA provisional leap of 5.55 meters, which is currently tied for the best mark in the MIAC.  She also ranks second (1.61m) in the high jump and tenth (31.87m) in the javelin on the MIAC Women’s Outdoor Honor Roll.

The Gustavus women’s outdoor track and field team will compete at the MIAC Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 14-15, in Winona, Minn.
