Five Women’s Tennis Players Named 2010 All-Conference

Five members of the Gustavus women’s tennis team were named to the 2010 All-Conference singles and doubles teams on Friday, May 7.  Marianne Barau, Sam Frank, Megan Gaard, Sierra Krebsbach, and Ali O’Neal were named to the singles All-Conference Team, while the doubles pairs of Sierra Krebsbach and Sam Frank, and Marianne Barau and Megan Gaard were named to the All-Conference doubles team. Alison Utke was named to the 2010 All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Junior Marianne Barau (Glencoe, Minn.) finished the season with an overall singles record of 20-5 and a MIAC record of 9-1.  In doubles, Barau paired with Megan Gaard to finish 10-0 in the conference and 22-4 overall.  Barau makes the All-Conference doubles team for the first time this year, as she was honored as All-Conference in singles last season.

Junior Sam Frank (Mahtomedi, Minn.) ended the regular season with an overall record of 11-14 and a MIAC record of 9-1 in the singles competition.  In MIAC doubles, Frank teamed up with Sierra Krebsbach to go 6-1, and Ali O’Neal to go 2-0, for an overall MIAC record of 9-1.  The duo of Frank and Krebsbach finished the regular season with an overall record of 14-10.  Frank was named All-Conference in singles in 2008, while also being honored as All-Conference in doubles in 2009 and 2008 previous to this season.

Sophomore Megan Gaard (Edina, Minn.) earns a spot on the All-Conference singles and doubles teams for the second time in her career, receiving All-MIAC honors in both last season.  Gaard finished the regular season with an overall record of 21-4 and a MIAC record of 10-0 in singles.  In doubles, Gaard paired with Barau to go 22-4 overall, and 10-0 in the MIAC.

Senior Sierra Krebsbach (North Oaks, Minn.) finished the regular season of her senior year with an overall record of 15-9 and a MIAC record of 8-1 in singles.  Krebsbach becomes a four-time All-MIAC performer in both singles (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010) and doubles (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010).  She teamed up with Sam Frank in doubles to go 14-10 overall and 6-2 in the MIAC this season.  Krebsbach was also 1-0 with Alex Erickson, and 1-0 with Maria Bryan in doubles.

Senior Ali O’Neal (Stevens Point, Wis.) becomes a three-time (2008, 2009, 2010) member of the All-MIAC singles team this year.  She finished the regular season with an overall singles mark of 15-9 and a MIAC mark of 8-1.  O’Neal paired with Maria Bryan in doubles for the majority of season, finishing with an overall record of 10-2 and a MIAC record of 6-0.  She has been previously named to the 2009 and 2008 All-Conference doubles team.

Senior Alison Utke (Park Rapids, Minn), named to the 2010 All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team, finished the regular season with an overall record of 6-1 in singles, and 6-1 in doubles. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
