The Gustavus softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Midwest Region foe Central College on Sunday afternoon in St. Peter. The Gusties lost game one 1-0 and then bounced back to win game two 8-1. Gustavus, which is now 26-11 overall, will close out regular season play with a doubleheader against St. Scholastica on Monday evening at the University of Minnesota.
In game one, Central scored the lone run of the game on a triple by Angela Davis followed by a wild pitch. The Gusties struggled to get any offense going in the game as Central pitcher Kiley Lythberg limited the Gusties to five hits. Erin Truebenbach was the tough luck loser for Gustavus as she allowed one earned run and scattered 10 hits in six innings of work. Callie Nelsen pitched the seventh inning allowing two hits and striking out one.
In game two, the Gusties broke the game open with a seven run fourth inning. Gustavus registered five clutch hits including run scoring base hits by MacKenzie Dalton, Dani Cattrysse, Lisa Klass, and Jenna Johnson and a bases loaded double by Emily Wendorff that cleared the bases. The Gusties pounded out 11 hits in the game. Betsie Collins picked up the complete game win for Gustavus as she scattered five hits allowed one earned run, while striking out five and walking two.
