The Gustavus women’s outdoor track and field team registered 28 top five finishes at the Gustavus Adolphus College Drake Alternative Meet held in St. Peter, Minn. on Saturday afternoon.  Janey Helland, Allyson Voss, Megan Lundgren, and Danielle Burgmeier all tallied first place finishes on the day.  No team scores were kept at the meet.

Janey Helland had a big day with wins in the long jump (5.55m) and 400-meter hurdles (66.57), while taking second place in the javelin (31.87m).  Voss won the pole vault, clearing 3.42 meters, Lundgren won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.79, and Burgmeier won the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.53.

The Gusties had a good day in the track events, as Julia Thompson, Jenny Hendricks, Brooke Beskau, Laura Secor, Laura Sjoberg, Kim Rostvold, Amanda Iverson, Abby Karl, and Janie Briant all scored top five finishes.  Thompson placed third in the 100-meter dash (13.58) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (27.28).  Other second place finishers included Beskau in the 5000-meter run (18:37.28), Secor in the 1500-meter run (4:51.97), and Sjoberg in the 100-meter hurdles (16.60).  Rostvold placed third in the 5000-meter run (18:57.29), while Iverson took third in the 400-meter dash (59.42).  Hendricks added a fourth place finish in the 800-meter run (2:26.79), Abby Karl finished fourth in the 400-meter dash (59.47), and Janie Briant took fifth in the 100-meter dash (13.62).

The Gustavus 4×100 meter relay team took first place with a time of 50.37, while the Gustavus “A” 4×400 meter relay team finished first with a time of 4:04.38.  The Gustavus “B” 4×400 meter relay team finished second with a time of 4:10.09.

In the field events, Sarah Baker, Sam Broderius, Emily Klatt, Holly Hoffman, Kaelene Lundstrum, and Anna Bauer all tallied top five finishes.  Baker placed second in the high jump, clearing 1.55 meters.  Broderius took second in the shot put (12.95m) and fourth in the discus (39.67m).  Klatt took fourth in the long jump (4.94m) and fifth in the triple jump (10.21m).  Bauer placed fourth in the hammer throw (43.36), Lundstrum took fifth in the shot put (12.07m), and Hoffman finished fifth in the pole vault (3.12m).

The Gustavus women’s outdoor track and field team will hit the track again next Saturday, May 1st, when it takes part in the Gustie Invite held in St. Peter, Minn.  Events will begin at 11:00am.
