Gustavus Adolphus junior defender Kirstin Peterson (St. Paul, Minn./Hill-Murray) has been named MIAC Women’s Hockey Athlete of the Week for her efforts in Gustavus’s 5-0 win over St. Olaf in the MIAC Playoff semifinals, and 5-1 victory over St. Catherine in the MIAC Playoff Championship game. The Gustavus women’s hockey team has now won the MIAC Playoff Championship seven consecutive years.
In Thursday’s win over St. Olaf, Peterson registered two goals and one assist. Peterson capped off the game by finding the back of the net for Gustavus’s final two goals of the game at the 12:53 mark of the second period and 4:35 mark of the third. Her lone assist came on the game-winning goal in the first period put in by forward Allie Schwab.
In Saturday’s MIAC Playoff Championship game, Peterson contributed to the solid Gustie defensive play by allowing the #2 seed Wildcats just 19 shots on goal in the game. She had one assist in the game, which came in the third period on a goal by Alyssa Gualrapp. Peterson finished the weekend with four points and a +/- of +5.
Peterson led the MIAC scoring by defensemen with three goals and 13 assists for 16 points, and currently ranks fifth in Division III in the same category with six goals and 18 assists for 24 points. She has a +/- of +24 on the season and has scored two power play goals.
The Gustavus women’s hockey team will face UW-River Falls on Saturday, March 13, in Don Roberts Ice Rink in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs. The puck is set to drop at 2:00pm.
