Kaelene Lundstrum 2010 MIAC Pentathlon Champion

The 2010 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships got under way the pentathlon on Thursday night in Northfield, Minn.  The Gustavus women’s indoor track and field team is off to a fast start, as Gusties filled three of the top five spots in the final pentathlon standings.  Senior Kaelene Lundstrum defended her 2009 title in the pentathlon to become the two-time MIAC Champion in the event.  Lundstrum scored a total of 3428 points, finishing first in her respected heat in the high jump (5′ 5.75″), shot put (38′ 2.25″), and 55-meter hurdles (9.09).

Junior Janey Helland finished runner-up with 3369 points.  Helland placed in the top three of her heat in all five pentathlon events, with her best finish coming in the long jump.   Her leap of 17′ 9″ was the best jump in the Pentathlon.  Sarah Baker added a fifth place finish, compiling 2774 points.  Baker scored 761 points by taking first place in the 55-meter hurdles with the overall best time of 9.06.
