Women’s Nordic Skiing Wraps Up Season With Sixth Place Finish At NCAA Central Region Championships Posted on February 22nd, 2010 by

The Gustavus women’s nordic team wrapped up the 2009-10 regular season with a sixth place finish (89 points) at the NCAA Central Region Championships held at Michigan Tech’s trails in Houghton, Michigan.  The Gusties scored 44 points in the 5 km classic on Saturday, and 45 points in the 10 km freestyle on Sunday.  Erica Hett was the top Gustavus skier of the weekend, posting a 10th place finish in the classic (17:57.0) and making the 5km Classic All-Region Team.  Hett is the first Gustavus first year skier to make the All-Region team.

Northern Michigan University won the Central Region Championship with 174 points, as the University of Alaska-Fairbanks placed second with 145 points, and Michigan Tech University finished third with 122 points.

The Gusties posted their best day of the season on Sunday, as three Gustavus skiers placed in the top 25.  Hett finished 18th (32:07.0), Erin Eppler took 24th (32:40.5), and Danielle Burgmeier placed 25th (32:45.6).  Northern Michigan’s Christina Gillis took first place in the 10 km freestyle (30:20.8), as Laura DeWitt, also from NMU, won the 5 km classic (16:59.1).
