Brabbit Receives All-Region Honors, Men’s Nordic Skiing Finishes Fifth At NCAA Central Region Championships Posted on February 22nd, 2010 by

The Gustavus men’s nordic ski team finished the 2009-10 regular season by scoring a combined 110 points to finish in fifth place at the NCAA Central Region Championships held at Michigan Tech’s trails in Houghton, Michigan.  The Gusties registered 54 points in the 10 km classic on Saturday, Feb. 20, and 56 points in the 15 km freestyle on Sunday, Feb. 21.  Jens is the first Gustavus skier in the schools history to make the podium at the region meet.

Junior Jens Brabbit had another outstanding weekend, earning All-Region honors in both the classic and freestyle races over the weekend.  Brabbit finished third in the freestyle (40:02.5) and fifth finish in the classic (30:18.0).  Brabbit sits in good position to make the NCAA Championships on March 10-13.  Official rankings will be announced later this week.

Northern Michigan took home the Central Region Championship with 159 points.  Michigan Tech placed second with 139 points, while the University of Alaska-Fairbanks finished third with 132 points.

Anders Bowman also had a good weekend for the Gusties.  He finished 14th in the 15 km freestyle with a time of 41:42.7, and 18th in the 10 km classic with a time of 31:35.1.  Michigan Tech’s Oskar Lund was champion in the classic (29:43.5), while Northern Michigan’s George Cartwright won the freestyle (39:42.8).
