The Gustavus men’s indoor track and field team compiled 94.5 points to finish fourth place at the Meet of the Hearts hosted by Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. Max Hanson and John Kennedy registered individual event wins, as Hanson won the 800 meter run (1:54.68) and Kennedy took the mile run (4:27.10). Hamline won the meet with 203.5 points, as Bethel placed second with 101.5 points, and Augsburg took third with 99.5 points.
Matt Dvorak had a good day in the sprint events with a third place finish in the 55 meter dash (6.66), and a fourth place finish in the 200 meter dash (23.07). Alex Thornton was the other top Gustavus finisher in the track events, taking fifth in the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:02.97. The 4×200 meter relay also placed first, crossing the finish line in 1:32.17.
Top finishers in the field events were Jake Peymann and Matt Nemec. Peymann finished third in the high jump by clearing 6′ 0.75″, as Nemec also placed third by clearing 13′ 0.25″ in the pole vault.
Brian Anderson finished fourth in the shot put (46′ 9.50″) and fifth in the weight throw (49′ 1.50″), while Colin Rust rounded out the top Gustavus finishers by taking fourth in the triple jump (40′ 6.75″).
The Gustavus men’s track and field team will travel to Collegeville, Minn. on Saturday, Feb. 20, to take part in the Saint John’s Invite at 11:00 am.
