The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving team competed in the two-day Minnesota Challenge held in the Aquatics Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota on Friday and Saturday.  No team scores were kept, as it was the Gusties final swim meet before competition at the MIAC Championships held on February 18-20 in the U of M Aquatics Center.

The Gusties turned in four top five finishes at the meet.  The Gustavus relay teams had a strong showing at the meet, as the Gusties turned in seven top ten finishes in the five relay events.  The 800 and 400 freesyle relay races were Gustavus’s best two finishes of the Challenge.  The team of Carley Mosher, Jonna Berry, Dajana Vidovic, and Carrie Gundersen teamed up to take second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:39.57), as Mosher, Vidovic, Gundersen, and Sarah Hund took third in the 800 freestyle relay (8:06.76).

Mosher, Gundersen, Allyson Hannemann, and Janae Piehl took sixth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.63).  Mosher, Hund, Maggie Hansvick, and Steph Korba took fourth in the 400 medley relay (4:05.44), as Hannemann, Vidovic, Anika Erickson, and Mary Jo Bahr finished behind them in eighth (4:14.08).  The team of Mosher, Hansvick, Korba and Hund finished 10th in the 200 medley relay, as did the 400 freestyle relay team of Berry, Bahr, Brittany Corson, and Serena Elton.

Individually, the Gusties registered seven top 10 finishes at the meet.  Carrie Gundersen and Carley Mosher led the way with four top 15 finishes each.  Gundersen’s best finish came in the 200 butterfly, as she took fourth place with a time of 2:16.51.  She also finished sixth in the 500 freestyle (5:08.45), and 13th in both the 200 (1:57.64) and 100 freestyle (55.45).  Mosher placed seventh in both the 200 IM and 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 2:12.70 and 2:10.24, respectively.  She also took 13th in the 200 butterfly (2:21.18) and 15th in the 100 backstroke (1:01.29).

Other top individual performers included Marnie Luke, Sarah Hund, Brittany Matzke, Dajana Vidovic, Anika Erickson, Steph Korba.  Luke finished ninth in the 200 butterfly (2:19.51) and 12th in the 400 IM (4:57.63).  Korba registered a seventh place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:18.63), Hund placed eighth in the 50 freestyle (24.71), Erickson took 10th in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.12), and Vidovic placed 14th in the 100 freestyle (55.49).  Brittany Matzke was the top Gustavus diver with a 13th place finish in the three-meter diving (214.05).
