Gymnastics Falls To UW-Stout 173.725-169.750

The Gustavus gymnastics team dropped it’s opening road meet to WIAC opponent UW-Stout 173.725-169.750 on Friday night in Menomonie, Wisc. UW-Stout’s Meghan Hargens and Naomi DeLara were the top performers in the meet as they each won two events. Kelly Mathewson was the top Gustavus performer, taking second in the all-around (34.625).

The Gustavus gymnastics team came up short in it’s first road test against WIAC opponent UW-Stout 173.725-169.750 on Friday night in Menomonie, Wisc.  UW-Stout’s Meghan Hargens and Naomi DeLara were the top performers in the meet as they each won two events.  Hargens took first in the all-around (37.550) with wins on both the vault (9.350) and uneven parallel bars (9.500).  DeLara took first in the balance beam (9.500) and floor exercise (9.675).  Kelly Mathewson was the top Gustavus performer, taking second in the all-around (34.625).

Gustavus compiled individual event scores of 45.050 on the vault, 40.300 on the bars, 41.600 on the beam, and 42.800 on the floor exercise.  The Blue Devils scored a 45.200 on the vault, 42.250 on the bars, 41.600 on the beam, and a 44.675 on the floor.

Kelley Mathewson’s top mark of the night came in her third place finish on the bars (8.600).  Samantha Opsahl had a solid meet with three third place finishes on the vault (9.175), beam (9.025), and floor (9.000).  Danielle Thibodeau finished third in the all-around with 34.250 points.  Thibodeau’s top mark was on the bars, as she finished third with a score of 8.775.  Hargens added to her two victories with second place finishes on the beam (9.250) and floor exercise (9.450).

The Gustavus gymnastics team will compete in the Best of Minnesota Invite on Feb. 6 on the campus of the University of Minnesota at 6:00 p.m.
