Men’s Nordic Skiing Finishes Second At Minnesota College Relays Posted on January 18th, 2010 by

The Gustavus men’s nordic ski team tied for second place with the College of St. Scholastica at the Minnesota College Relays hosted by Saint John’s University Sunday afternoon in Collegeville, Minn.  Gustavus tallied 11 team points as the pair of Anders Bowman and Jens Brabbit finished third overall with a time of 1:02.31.  The University of Alaska-Fairbanks won the meet with 19 points, as Saint John’s took fourth (8 points), and St. Olaf finished fifth (6 points).

The race format was a 2 x 6km classic, followed by a 2 x 5.5km skate.  Alaska-Fairbanks’s Ray Sabo and Henri Soom won the meet with a time of 1:01.32 as their teammates Alex Morris and John Parry finished behind them in second (1:02.30).  Gustavus’s other top performers included Andrew Poffenberger and Logan Smestad.  The pair finished ninth overall with a time of 1:05.40.

Zach Wagner and Peter Larsen finished 11th (1:07.31) as Jon Kasprisin and Derrick Berndt placed 12th (1:09.22).

The Gustavus men’s nordic ski team will next compete at the NCAA Qualifier #2 in Minneapolis, Minn. on Jan. 22-23.
