Women’s Basketball Defeats St. Thomas 77-63, Remains Atop MIAC Standings

The Gustavus women’s basketball team remained in a three-way tie for first place with an important 77-63 win over St. Thomas on Wednesday night at Concordia University’s Gangelhoff Center. The Gusties, who had five players reach double figures in the scoring column, were led by Molly Mathiowetz with 22 points.

The Gustavus women’s basketball team remained in a three-way tie for first place with an important 77-63 win over St. Thomas on Wednesday night at Concordia University’s Gangelhoff Center.  The Gusties, who had five players reach double figures in the scoring column, were led by Molly Mathiowetz with 22 points.  Gustavus was an impressive 22-of-25 from the free throw line in the contest and committed only 11 turnovers.

The Tommies pulled to within five points at 46-41 midway through the second half, but Gustavus answered with a 10-0 run for a 15-point cushion with 9:09 to play. UST never got closer than nine down the stretch.

Joining Mathiowetz in double digits were Bri Radtke with 16, Molly Geske with 13, and Katie Layman and Julia Schultz with 10 each.

The Gusties will travel to Arden Hills to face Bethel at 1 pm on Saturday.
