Nordic Ski Teams Open With Productive Performances in Michigan

The Gustavus men's and women's nordic ski teams opened their 2010-11 seasons at the Grandview Classic in Ironwood, Michigan. No team scores were kept, however both teams turned in solid performances against a strong field. Jens Brabbit led the men's team with an eighth place finish in the freestyle race on Saturday and a fifth place finish in the classic race on Sunday. Erica Hett led the women's team with a 12th place finish in the freestyle race and a 10th place finish in the classic race.

Luke Strom, Lucas Thompson Named To All-Region Soccer Team

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) recently released its All-North Region Team and Luke Strom, a senior goalkeeper from Plymouth, Minn. was named to the First Team, while Lucas Thompson, a sophomore central defender from Sioux Falls, S.D., was named to the Second Team. Strom and Thompson were key contributors to a Gustie squad that finished with a record of 10-5-3 overall and 5-2-3 in league play.

Saint Benedict Defeats Women’s Basketball 64-61

The Gustavus women's basketball team suffered a tightly-contested 64-61 loss at the hands of Saint Benedict on Saturday afternoon in St. Joseph, Minn. Molly Mathiowetz led Gustavus with 17 points, while Blazer Amy Stifter scored a game-high 25 points. Gustavus falls to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the MIAC.

Men’s Hockey Completes Sweep Of Finlandia With 4-1 Win

The Gustavus men's hockey team completed the weekend sweep of Finlandia University with a 4-1 victory on Saturday afternoon in Hancock, Mich. The Gusties used a three goal first period to propel them past the Lions. Gustavus improves to 9-3-1 overall, while Finlandia falls to 1-9.

Women’s Hockey Falls At UW-River Falls 4-2

The Gustavus women's hockey team could not hold off a late UW-River Falls rally and lost to the #3 Falcons 4-2 in River Falls on Friday night. Lindsey Hjelm and Allie Schwab scored for the #7 Gusties.

Men’s Hockey Prevails 3-2 Over Finlandia University

The Gustavus men's hockey team defeated non-conference opponent Finlandia University 3-2 on Friday night in Hancock, Mich. Zach May scored a goal and had two assists in the victory. Gustavus improves to 8-3-1.

Gustavus Adolphus junior free safety Brad Kruckeberg has earned a spot on the D3football.com All-West Region Team.

Men’s Basketball Knocks Off Macalester 83-73 To Stay Unbeaten In League Play

The Gustavus men's basketball team stayed unbeaten in MIAC play with a hard-fought 83-73 win at Macalester on Wednesday night. The Scots cut a double-digit Gustie lead to six points with :16 left in regulation play, however Phil Wirtjes made four free throws in the final seconds to allow Gustavus to hold on for the 10-point victory. Wirtjes led Gustavus in scoring with 20 points.

Hot Shooting Pushes Women’s Basketball Past Macalester 73-52

The Gustavus women's basketball team cruised to a 73-52 victory over Macalester on Wednesday night on Gus Young Court. The Gusties were led by Molly Geske who scored a game-high 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Gustavus improves to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the MIAC, while Macalester falls to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the MIAC.

Strong Second Half By Wirtjes Allows Men’s Basketball To Defeat St. Olaf 74-66

Gustavus rallied from 10 points down in the second half to defeat St. Olaf 74-66 in St. Peter on Monday night. Phil Wirtjes scored 26 points to lead the Gusties who are now 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the MIAC.
