The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving team lost its season-opening dual meet 98-141 to the University of Minnesota, Mankato at MSU’s Highland Pool on Friday night. Gustavus senior Carrie Gundersen placed first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.06), as first year swimmer Carley Mosher claimed first place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.01). Gundersen and Mosher joined teammates Dajana Vidovic and Sarah Hund as they took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:41.79).
Gustavus claimed six second place finishes including Gundersen in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:53.48), Mosher in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.78), Hund in the 100-yard freestyle (56.16), Stephanie Korba in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.38), Anika Erickson in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.24), and Tori Hubbard in the 0ne-meter diving (178.55).
Gustavus also got help from six third place finishes. Third place finishers included Korba, Erickson, Vidovic, and Quinn Arnold in the 200-yard medley relay, Allyson Hannemann in the 100-yard backstroke, Vidovic in the 100-yard freestyle, Maggie Hansvick in the 100-yard breaststroke, Hannemann, Anna Eames, Kathryn Lucas, and Janae Pieh in the 200 freestyle relay, and Marnie Luke in the three-meter diving.
Gustavus will face St. Cloud State University in a dual meet on Saturday at 1:00pm in the Gustavus Natatorium.
